Jesus Prays for You

Jesus' prayer for His disciples in John 17 reveals what He most wants to see in the lives of His disciples. He prays that we would remain dedicated to Him and to proclaiming Him in a hostile world.

The Point of Prayer

We tend to pray more in times of desperation, pain, and uncertainty. In this initially painful story from John 11, Jesus had been praying and His friends, too. But He didn't do what they expected Him to do. Instead God (Jesus) answered their prayers in order to point people to Himself. He, Himself, is the point of everything.

The Silent Treatment

Matthew 15:21-28 is not just a conversation between a Canaanite woman and Jesus. It is a prayer. She was suffering, and persisted with Jesus through His initial silence. She kept at it until she really connected with Him through faith.

Jesus' Happy Prayer

Are the kinds of things that make us happy the same as the things that make God happy? The context of Matthew 11:25-30 shows that Jesus is grieved by rejection and apathy. But His prayer shows His joy in His relationship with the Father and with us when we respond to the gospel.
