A Prayer of the Faithful in the Land of the Unfaithful

Sunday, April 8, 2018

Less and less we feel like we fit in our culture. God sees into the hearts of the world and is deeply aware of the way our culture is. So, God should punish those who do evil and bless those who follow God, right? But it doesn't always work that way. Jeremiah's prayer (Jeremiah 17:1-8) is a complaint about his expectations of God not being fulfilled.

What does Jesus' Resurrection mean to me?

Sunday, April 1, 2018

You can't just walk away from the resurrection. It will have an effect and will change your life. Jesus was not just an extraordinary person. He was sent from God and was God. What He said was truth - with authority. The resurrection validates those claims and shows His existence, His glory and His claim on our lives for eternity.

Maundy Thursday

Thursday, March 29, 2018

Note: There is more than only the sermon on this recording. We know that Jesus came to give us peace, but He also gives us a purpose - a call to the point of not going back, the point of no return. We are called to be His disciples, to serve others, and become like Him. Maundy Thursday is to celebrate getting the new commandment. We need to follow it and love others.

God and Your Grievances

Sunday, March 25, 2018

There are injustices in the world and sometimes it gets under our skin. Jeremiah was really upset about the injustices he saw and experienced. When he complained to God (which is a good thing to do), God responded in a way that was disappointing to Jeremiah. But it isn't that God didn't care. God is grieved by injustice and will eventually do what is right.

Pain and Prayer

Sunday, March 18, 2018

God brought illness into Hezekiah's life to teach him some things he needed to know. Sometimes God does this with us, too. Hezekiah was proud - he relied on his own devotion to God, not God's mercy and grace. God knew that he needed to learn humility. We also need to be open to God's voice in the midst of pain in order to become the people He knows we should be.
